This week’s roundup of Mobile ID World’s most popular stories covers a range of technologies and application areas, with biometrics and consumer authentication figuring prominently as key themes.

One increasingly popular area of consumer-facing biometrics is that of fingerprint scanning payment cards, so it’s no wonder that Mobile ID World readers showed a lot of interest in this week’s news that Jordan Kuwait Bank is making this technology available to its Mastercard World Elite customers. The card was developed by Thales, and may feature technology from one of the more notable fingerprint sensor makers:

Consumers may also appreciate a new and highly secure authentication option from BIO-key, which recently announced FIDO2 and FIDO U2F security keys. The offerings include an NFC key, a Nano USB-A key, and multiple USB-C options, including one that features an embedded fingerprint sensor for extra-secure authentication:

Speaking of strong online authentication, the news that One Identity has acquired OneLogin garnered a sustained attention from Mobile ID World readers. There’s a good deal of overlap between the companies’ IAM offerings, but OneLogin had demonstrated a particular focus on Single Sign-On solutions with a platform that supports One-Time Passwords and WebAuthn-based biometric authentication, among other solutions:

Authentication revolves around proving who you are, but a growing number of people are also finding that they need to prove that they are vaccinated against COVID-19. To that end, CLEAR got some time in the spotlight this week with its announcement that iPhone users can now upload vaccination credentials from the Apple Health app directly into CLEAR’s Health Pass vaccination passport:

And finally, some intriguing news from the blockchain space generated buzz among Mobile ID World readers. LoginID announced this week that it received a grant from the Algorand Foundation to tailor its authentication SDKs and APIs for the latter’s blockchain ecosystem. It’s the latest illustration of the value of biometric authentication in blockchain-based transactions, where they can provide a kind of digital signature without revealing personal information:
