Allergy to soy, a product of soybeans, is a common food allergy in the UK.

In some cases people can go into life-threatening anaphylactic shock.

The Food Standards Agency has issued an alert warning customers about the serious labelling error.

A statement on the agency’s website reads: “Walkers Snack Foods is recalling Doritos Tangy Cheese as a precautionary measure because it contains soya which is not accurately declared on the label.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to soya, do not eat it.”

The agency advises shoppers with a soy allergy to return the recalled product to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

The affected packs are 180g in size and have a best before date of June 6, 2020.

All products with best before codes of June 13, 2020 and after are not affected.

In a point-of-sale notice, Walkers said the product is safe for those without an allergy to soya, but it may not taste as it should.

These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

If you have one of the affected packs call Walkers’ consumer care line on 0800 274777 to receive a full refund.

For customers in the Republic of Ireland call 1800 509 408.

In November 2018 the crisp giant also recalled Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli crisps because it hadn’t correctly emphasised on the packets that the snacks contain wheat.

Matalan recently recalled a range of hot water bottles safety and quality concerns.
