Consumers across the globe will spend $ 6.3 billion on digital music in 2011, up from $ 5.9 billion a year ago, according to a forecast issued last month by research firm Gartner. Download services like Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iTunes drive the majority of digital music sales, generating $ 3.6 billion in 2011 end-user spending; despite the hype, streaming music services currently account for only about $ 532 million a year, although Gartner anticipates streaming revenues will increase to $ 2.2 billion a year by 2015. Cash register scanner survey is good news for Mass. consumers

On the heels of a survey that showed a big percentage of the in-aisle price scanners didn’t meet state standards, a review of the more-important checkout scanners found near perfection.

The Massachusetts Division of Standards annual review found 99.46 percent accuracy. Inspectors visited 84 stores of 46 different retailers. They checked 2,425 items and found only 13 overcharges. Of those, only one was for more than $ 1.50.

The results have consistently found 99-plus percent accuracy in recent years.
